Just sold this hand-coloured aquatint of Lady Jane Grey and it's going to the US. I shall give my customer some info from the Court Ladies Magazine and I pass it on here as I shall no longer have access to it once it's posted.
In order to look regal, as she was quite small, she wore cork chopines - raised shoes - of nearly a foot in height.
I well remember staggering around in platform shoes in the early 1970s (muttering "vanity knows no pain"), but her chopines would have defeated me.
Of course, her height was much reduced in 1554 when she was beheaded.
